A loose formation of birds recedes into a veil of warm mist, growing smaller and fainter until the last ones dissolve into the atmosphere like ink bleeding into wet paper. The composition is built in three horizontal bands of diminishing contrast: the lower band holds warm beige sand in thick impasto strokes, tactile and present; the middle band is a muted warm grey sea rendered in medium dry-brush passages, its surface barely disturbed; the upper band — the sky — is a vast graduated wash from warm taupe at the horizon to the palest cream at the top, growing increasingly translucent as it rises. The flock enters from the lower-left quadrant — six or seven birds rendered in warm charcoal ink-line precision near the horizon, each successive bird painted with less pigment, less detail, as if the mist is slowly erasing them. The last two are mere suggestions — dry-brush wisps that could be birds or could be nothing at all. The palette is tonal: warm beige sand, muted warm grey, warm taupe, pale cream, with the birds in descending warm charcoal.
